The American Dream is a reality, and it is a reality for all Americans. Some think of the American Dream as a life full of monetary riches, the perfect job, a nice house with a white picket fence, and so much more, but in reality, the American Dream consists of ensuring liberty and justice for all. Today, more than ever, the American Dream is a reality for all Americans, and it can be seen in the diversity, economic opportunity, and overall ability to flourish that America offers everyone, most notably immigrants.

One of the telling signs of the American Dream as a reality is the United States’ diversity. Though the overall diversity of America is not exceptional in comparison to other countries, the United States is home to the world’s largest immigrant population. The U.S. houses roughly 51 million immigrants, which make up nearly one-fifth of the world’s entire immigrant population. One of the most common reasons for why immigrants move to the United States is for better work, living, and family opportunities, and this can be seen in the “44 percent of Fortune 500 companies [that] were founded by immigrants or their children.” The immigrant population is expected to grow by about 25 million in the next 40 years, and with it, the overall diversity of the United States. The growing diversity of America indicates how its founding principles provide opportunities and the ability to flourish for everyone, motivating immigrants from all over the world to seek a brighter future on American soil.

Another key indication of the American Dream’s reality is economic opportunity. The American Dream is evidenced by the proliferation of entrepreneurship and the economy. In fact, the United States ranks as the third best country in the world for entrepreneurship, where “320 out of every 100,000 adults become new entrepreneurs” every month in the U.S. Contributing to these entrepreneurs’ success, America distinctly offers a large “number of resources for entrepreneurs and startups.” Not only is America great for entrepreneurs, but it is also the country with the best job opportunities economy-wide. Every American has the ability to take these opportunities and advance their economic interests. Economic opportunity proves to be one of the greatest reasons for immigration. When observing immigrant surveys and economic reports, one can see the considerable opportunities that make up just a piece of the American Dream.

By looking at what the American Dream aims to provide through diversity, economic opportunity, and the ability to flourish, it is clear that the American Dream is a reality. Thanks to the American Dream and the freedom it provides, Americans live in a country where they are free to start a business, get a good job, and enjoy the opportunities that America has to offer. Today, the American Dream is in full force, providing all with freedom and opportunity, but with this expansion, government control and oversight of American citizens has also increased. When the government takes control over its citizens, it limits their liberties and squanders their opportunities. With this being the case, we should really be asking ourselves this: how long will the American Dream remain a reality?

No, The American Dream Never Was a Reality

The idea of the American Dream was always just that: a dream. In reality, one’s ability to achieve monetary success in the United States is often determined before one is born. Indeed, the circumstances set generations before the birth of each individual will...

Yes, But It Is Not Accessible to Everyone

At its core, the American Dream is the belief that through perseverance and honest work, one can go from impoverished to successful. Famed American inventor Robert Fulton, arguably a prime example of the Dream, once said, “The American dream of rags to riches is a...
